SITRAC traveled to Beantown, the beautiful city of Boston on June
9-10. The purpose of the trip

was
to visit the Reggie Lewis Track & Field facility on the campus
of Roxbury Community College.
The four person contingent, Lorraine Lettieri, Pete
Whitehouse, Larry Rampulla and Bob Orazem spent several hours with
Kevin McDermott, the executive director of the facility. McDermott
and his associates escorted SITRAC through the field house and all
the nooks and crannies of this top track & field facility.
In recent years the Reggie Lewis center has hosted the US Indoor
Track & Field Championship and the Nike H.S Indoor Nationals.
The facility has a full schedule of meets from Nov. 1-April 1. The
facility is also a fitness center, a dance studio and a senior
center for exercise. It hosts a six lane banked track with an
adjoining five lane sprint straightaway.
The field house was beautiful and clean with McDermott's
staff responsible for a wide array of objectives. The facility has
a capacity of 4500 seats and has utilized as many as 4200 for an
event.
Another purpose of the trip was to learn from and study
another facility and to take ideas back to consider for the Ocean
Breeze Park Indoor Track.
Orazem said "This facility is a great asset to East Coast
Track & Field. We learned a lot from the visit"
