Carlin Close To Olympic Trial Qualifying

Staten Islander Jesse Carlin is close to automatically qualifying for the USA Olympic Trials to be held in Eugene Oregon, June 27-July 6, 2008.

The former St. Joe’s by the Sea and current University of Pennsylvania star has met the ‘B’ standard for the meet.

The event will accept a minimum of 30 athletes from throughout the USA. Athletes meeting the ‘A’ standard (2:01.50) are automatically accepted. The field will be filled out, if needed to a minimum of 30 athletes.

Carlin stated "I have several high level meets in the next month and I hope to improve my time". Carlin hopes to become a professional runner and is weighing her options.

Staten Island has never had two Olympic Trials qualifiers in the same year. Caitlin Tormey competed in the Olympic Tials marathon in April, finishing 23rd in 2:40:29.

The running community is proud of Jesse!!
