Carlin Close To
Olympic Trial Qualifying
Staten Islander Jesse Carlin is close
to automatically qualifying for the USA Olympic Trials to be held in
Eugene Oregon, June 27-July 6, 2008.
The former St. Joe’s by the Sea and
current University of Pennsylvania star has met the ‘B’ standard
for the meet.
The event will accept a minimum of 30
athletes from throughout the USA. Athletes meeting the ‘A’
standard (2:01.50) are automatically accepted. The field will be
filled out, if needed to a minimum of 30 athletes.
Carlin stated "I have several
high level meets in the next month and I hope to improve my
time". Carlin hopes to become a professional runner and is
weighing her options.
Staten Island has never had two
Olympic Trials qualifiers in the same year. Caitlin Tormey competed
in the Olympic Tials marathon in April, finishing 23rd in
2:40:29.
