March 27, 2008 - There were only a few Island
collegians competing last weekend, as the majority of northeastern
schools took a welcome break after a long indoor campaign.
Once again, Jeff Brannigan of
American U. continues to sparkle. The former Curtis HS runner, who
is now trained by Olympian Matt Centrowitz, made a big breakthrough
two weeks ago in the 1,500-meter run, when he clocked 3:58.85 at the
Coastal Carolina Invitational.
This past weekend, he competed at the
five-team Navy Invitational at Annapolis under cold, windy
conditions, and he clocked in the mid-1:57-range for the 800 meters.
Two Islanders friom Albany University
journeyed further south, and competed at the Hurricane Classic at
the University of Miami.
Corrine Stepney (St. Peter’s) ran
59.85 for 400 meters, and later ran a leg on the Albany 4x400-meter
relay.
Anthony Collica (St. Joseph
by-the-Sea) competed in the high jump, and cleared 6-3.
