Ezike of Cornell and Jesse Carlin of the University of Pennsylvania
are closing out brilliant collegiate careers.
Ezike (Port Richmond) clocked 7.49
seconds in the trials of the 55-meter hurdles at the IC4A
championships, an NCAA provisional qualifier. He did not complete
his semi-final race.
Carlin (St. Joseph by-the-Sea),
competing in the ECAC championship meet at the Reggie Lewis Center,
notched an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2:06.27 in the
800-meter run trials. She did not compete in the final, but ran on
the Quakers distance medley relay, which won and qualified for the
NCAA meet with an 11:11.90 clocking.
Carlin and Ezike will compete at this
weekend’s NCAA championship meet at the Tyson Center in
Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Carlin will compete in the 800 meter
run, and run a leg on the distance medley rela, while Ezike will
compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
In other IC4A action, Will Velez (St.
Peter’s), who competes for St. Francis (Pa.), finished fifth in
the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 8.5 inches. Bryan Pagliuca of Wagner
cleared 6-7, which tied him for eighth place.
John Carstensen (Monsignor Farrell)
of Rhode Island was seventh in the pole vault, clearing a
personal-best 16-0.75. Brian Duggan (Farrell) of Rutgers, one of the
favorites, has shoulder problems and failed to negotiate the opening
height.
Carlton Edmond of Wagner made the
fnal of the 55-meter dash, and placed ninth in the final (6.67). He
had a best of 6.40 in the trial heats.
Lionel Williams continues to make
news. The Penn State freshman (St. Peter’s) ran a personal-best
1:50.56 at the Tyson Invitational in late February. He failed to
qualify for the 800 final at the Big Ten championship meet, but
anchored PSU to second place in the 4x400-meter relay.
University of Kentucky freshman Matt
Frawley (Farrell) clocked 1:54.78 in the trials of the 800-meter run
in the Southeastern Conference meet, held at the University of
Arkansas.
